About Dori Love Train

Who let the dogs out?  WHO? WHO? WHO? WHO?   That may be the question of over 250 dogs/puppies that have been rescued from abandoned or abused homes that otherwise would have been tragically euthanized.  Now these precious pups have forever final homes due to the generous efforts of “Dori’s Love Train” (DLT).

Originally, “Dori’s Love Train” was established in June of 2017, by Pamela Hall after the loss of her dear mother and best friend, Dorliss Hall.  Pam wanted to do something to honor the memory of her mother while giving back to the community in a way that represented her mom’s devotion to her fury friends and the love of golf.  Now six years later, DLT has been able to donate enough funds to support the rescue of over 11 love train trips.

In 2017 when Dorliss passed away, Pam decided to contact HSHV and see how her mom’s memory could be significant to help other fury friends.  Cathy Pappas, Leadership Giving Officer, suggested giving funds for their Love Train.  HSHV’s Love Train transports puppies, dogs and some kittens and cats from places with high euthanasia rates to HSHV.  The train (a van) is in use twice per month for a run down south.  It then returns to HSHV where there is a high adoption rate.

The following year she gathered friends and family to attend an annual memorial golf outing to raise funds for a Love Train each year. The event has now tripled in attendance since then and has gained support from local businesses, chamber members, animal lovers and sponsors throughout the communities.  The golf outing is now held at the Classic 27- hole golf course, bloody mary bar, breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with many raffles, prizes, and silent auction.   This is all done through the generous support of volunteers who are on the board who actively contribute their time to the event: Janice Cantelon, Kim Fisher, Dani Hallsell, Karen & Gordie Roedding, Paula Merollis, and Craig Wobrock.

The most rewarding experience comes after all the festivities.  The DLT volunteers gather months later to assist the HSHV to help swaddle the dogs off the train (van), where they are named, tagged, de-wormed and settled overnight in cages with their respective litter companions.  The next day the dogs are spayed and neutered.  Friday mornings are always exciting as the crowds’ line up at the HSHV to see their potential companions up for adoption.  Several of the dogs have been adopted by attendees of the event and have made it to their forever homes. How exciting and rewarding it is to see a new puppy being held in the arms of their new owners.  This coming year event will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Since 2017, Dori's Love Train has rescued over 250 dogs!
